CUD had a group of 33 students and staff who participated in its first International Trip to Istanbul, Turkey! Students arrived at the Konak Hotel in Istanbul, after an early morning flight from Dubai. The hotel was located close to Taksim Square and hosted many surprises such as a wonderful breakfast buffet and Libyan soldiers! With only 4 days to soak in all of the sights, students and staff were kept busy the entire time while they were there. Sights included Princess Island tour with horse drawn and carriage ride, The Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Istiklal Street, Taksim Square, Sapphire Tower and more. Everyone who participated had an amazing time and wanted to extend their stay. Friendships flourished and the laughter still continues! We love Istanbul!

The End of Movember Event

The Red Theatre's curtains opened up to Amore Salon staff and 4 stations of hairdressers waiting to shave the faces of 10 students who had refrained from shaving and raised money for the month of November. Each courageous student, and one staff member, took the stage to have their facial hair publicly shaved into moustaches. Students, staff and members from Friends of Cancer patients watched the event and supported with further donations.

After the event the Movember participants continued on to have their photos professionally taken and plans for a 12 months of Movember calendar are in the works! The Students Services department and Team Movember raised 10,000aed in donations for Friends of Cancer Patients. CUD is definitely looking forward to next year’s Movember!

UAE National Day Silent Auction

On November 28th, 2011 the Canadian University of Dubai celebrated the 40th Anniversary of the United Arab Emirates. Students, friends and family joined together on campus in various representations of UAE culture. The Islamic Culture students prepared booths to represent the 7 emirates. There was henna painting, traditional music and dancing and much more. There was also a Silent Auction created to raise funds for the Paediatric Rashid Therapy Centre. Thousands of dirhams were raised for the centre through gift and prizing donations made from several companies in Dubai including Duplays Sports, Dubai Drums, Rashid Paediatric Centre, u:print, Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding, Dubai Dolphinarium, Short Cutz Gents Salon, Rolling Stone Magazine, Zataar W Zeit, Cinnabon, and Seattle's Best Coffee. Please join us in thanking them for their contribution to raise money for the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre and to making the Canadian University of Dubai National Day Celebrations a success.
