Graduation Fairs

Graduation fairs will be happening May 14th from 3pm - 7pm and May 19th from 3pm - 7pm in BLOCK A. Students wishing to graduate must attend one of the graduation fairs.

What is happening at the fair?

Short Presentation informing students of how the ceremony will proceed

Student Accounts payable- Block A: All outstanding fees must be paid previous to graduation

Gown Fitting and Ordering -Block A: Complete your Graduation Ceremony Confirmation form. All students are required to purchase their gowns (this is included in the Graduation Participation Fee). Additionally, there are a number of Graduation Memorabilia items you may wish to purchase (yearbook, diploma folder, and other items)

Enrollment Services - Block A – Complete your application for graduation, exit survey, application for letter of permission for your employer.

Photo Studio- Board Room - Have your photo taken in cap and gown and order pictures. You must have cash to pay for this service when you picture is taken, no credit cards or checks will be accepted. Cost will run from 300-500 dirhams, depending on the package you choose.

Fees:

Application to Graduate 800 AED (cash, credit or check)
Ceremony Participation Fee 350 AED (cash, credit or check)
Yearbook 200 AED (cash, credit or check)
Leather Diploma Folder 100 AED (cash, credit or check)
A3 Framed Degree 400 AED (cash, credit or check)

All Graduates will receive 6 complimentary tickets for the Graduation Ceremony.

Please fill in the Convocation Confirmation Form and return it to Louise in Registration or Karen in the Library.
There will be a limited number of additional tickets available. Follow the directions on the Convocation Confirmation Form for additional tickets.

Do We Have Rehearsals?

Yes Rehearsal are Mandatory and on June 6th 2012 all students who are graduating in 2012 have to be present at 8:30pm without exception

What time does the graduation happen on June 7th 2012

All Students have to be present at Dubai World Trade Centre at 10:00am at the latest to change into their gowns before the Procession

What time does the graduation finish on June 7th 2012

Approximately at 3:00pm

What do the students have to wear at the graduation?

It is Mandatory that all students wear the official CUD gown as per their course of graduation, however the cap is optional for UAE Nationals only

How Many Complimentary tickets to I get for my family and friends?

6 Complimentary tickets

What if I would like to have more tickets?

Students who require more than the 6 allocated complimentary tickets they can go to see Karen Peterson in the Library and she shall assist you accordingly

When attending the Graduation Fair what are the official procedures?

It is mandatory that all students graduating in 2012 have to attend the graduation fair either on May 14th 2012 or May 19th 2012 between 3:00pm – 7:00pm whereby you shall: - Attend a presentation outlining the agenda and official protocol
Fill out Forms for the:- Convocation Ceremony, Regalia, Application for Graduation and Exit Survey
Get fitted for your gowns and caps
Get your official photographs

What are the qualifications for graduation?

  1. Review your academic record in light of the academic requirements defined by your program of study.  Review your academic progression with your academic advisor.
  2. All fees and financial obligations to the University must be paid to qualify for participation in the graduation ceremony.

How do I apply for graduation?

  1. Complete an Application for Graduation Form which is available on the Graduation website or from Enrolment Services and submit it to Enrolment Services together with payment of 800 AED.
  2. Ensure that you are in good financial standing with the University (no outstanding balances or bounced cheques).

What do I receive from the University if I do not attend Convocation?

  1. For students in good financial standing, the diploma, certificate, and Official Transcript will be prepared upon approval of your application for graduation.
  2. Official documentation is not released or prepared until all financial obligations have been satisfied.
  3. For students graduating as of the end of 2012 Spring, the documentation will be prepared for distribution by, Sunday August 5, 2012.
  4. If you are not attending the ceremony you may collect a tassel after the ceremony has been held.

How can you prepare to attend the Convocation, the graduation ceremony?

  1. Complete a Convocation Confirmation Form and pay the fee of 350 AED at Enrolment Services.
  2. Please identify any special requirements or needs that CUD must address prior to or during the ceremony.
  3. All graduates receive six (6) free tickets.  Limited additional tickets are available, if needed please contact Karen Peterson (karen@cud.ac.ae or 04-709-6210).  Children under the age of 5 are not encouraged to attend.
  4. Complete an Academic Regalia Request Form.  Attend a fitting session at the Graduation Fair.  You must pay the Convocation Confirmation fee before gowns are fitted.
  5. Should you require a letter of permission to attend convocation for your employer, complete an Official Letter Request form at least one week prior to the ceremony.

How do I qualify to attend Convocation?

  1. Attend the rehearsal for the ceremony; June 6th 8:30 p.m. Sheikh Saeed Hall 1 & 2 Dubai World Trade Center. If you do not attend the rehearsal, you will not be permitted to attend the ceremony. No exceptions. Parents and guests are not permitted to attend the rehearsal.

What do I wear to Convocation?

  1. The event requires semi-formal wear.  Dark colors are preferable.
  2. No unauthorized costume or ornamentation shall be worn on any of the regalia during the ceremony.
  3. Male graduates may wear a ghafiyah, guthra, egal, kandura, and na-aal together with the graduation gown and hood.  A bisht is not permitted over the graduation gown.  You will not be required to wear the mortarboard. 
  4. Female graduates may wear an abaya and shela, hijab, or burqa together with the graduation gown, hood and mortarboard. 
  5. If you are not in your academic regalia and ready for the procession, you will not be permitted to participate in the ceremony.  No exceptions.
  6. Graduates keep the gown, hood, mortarboard and tassel.  You will receive the tassel at the ceremony.

What is the order of events on Convocation day?

  1. Be in the assembly room on time (10:00 a.m.).  Late arrivals to the assembly rooms will be barred from entry into the Ceremony.  No exceptions.
  2. Graduates must go directly to the gown assembly rooms.  Separate rooms will be provided for male and female graduates.  Family or guests are not permitted in the assembly rooms. Make-up artists and stylists may not enter the assembly room.  No unauthorized personnel may enter the room.
  3. Graduates are not permitted to carry personal items such as phones, etc. into the ceremony.  No exceptions.  Leave your personal items with your guests during assembly of the procession and the ceremony.
  4. Graduates will be given a card with their name and degree and/or honor.  Please respect the organization of the ceremony.
  5. Chewing gum is not permitted.
  6. Graduates will be led to the stage by a Marshall.

What do my guests need to know about Convocation?

  1. Guests must present a ticket to enter the ceremony.
  2. Guests may not enter the assembly room.
  3. The procession of the graduates into the hall will start at 10:45 promptly.  Everyone will be on stage by 11:00 a.m.  No exceptions.
  4.  No one is permitted to enter the hall after the procession begins and the honored guests have entered the hall.
  5. Private photographers are not permitted to enter as per the ruler’s court restriction.  Please note that photography and video recording will not be permitted during the graduation ceremony.

What do my guests need to know about parking at the Dubai World Trade Center?

  1.  Parking is available in the multi-story car park at 10 dirhams for the entire day.
  2.  Valet parking is available in front of the Ibis Hotel for 50 dirhams.
  3.  Free parking is available; see the Dubai World Trade Center map on our website. www.cud.ac.ae/graduation
  4.  There is a metro stop very close to the entrance to Sheikh Saeed Hall 1 and Hall 2 where the ceremony will be taking place.
  5.  Please check the graduation website www.cud.ac.ae/graduation for a map of the Dubai World Trade Center.

Your CUD Diploma, Certificate of Merit, and Official Transcript must go through the
attestation process as noted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
This process is completed by the student.

Academic honors upon degree completion

Academic honors are based on academic achievement of the graduate upon completion of their undergraduate or graduate degree program.  At the Canadian University of Dubai, graduates are awarded honors in three categories:

Cum Laude (With Praise) CGPA of 3-50 to 3.69
Magna Cum Laude (With Great Praise) CGPA of 3.70 to 3.89
Summa Cum Laude (With Highest Praise) CGPA of 3.90 or higher

If you are eligible for these academic honor as of the end of the Fall 2011 or Spring 2012 semester, you will wear a sash at the graduation ceremony.
